I chose Jackson's quote because as an artist I believe the art I create should show who I am. I want my movement to come from my inner most self. I have always danced to the beat of my own drum. This quote, to me, says that even in a society that is keen on placing labels on people, it is encouraged to be extraordinary. I pride myself on my ability to be comfortable in being uncomfortable. Lifting people up through my movement allows me to show them just how valuable they are. In my life, I need reassurance. If one simple compliment fills that void for someone else, then I have made an impact. I can sometimes be seen as an outsider, but through this I have learned that forgiveness and love make a bigger impact on someone than resentment. I have learned to have compassion for everyone. This quote reminds me that through dance, my words, and my actions I can spread that very same love and compassion.
